1. Introduction
Amongst the most recognisable names in motor vehicle history is Volvo. The Swedish company is approaching its centenary year, having first produced trucks in 1928, which rolled off the production line at its original manufacturing base in Göteborg.
In the intervening decades, Volvo has built a globally strong reputation based on safety, robust quality, comfort and reliability, with the excellent engineering of its vehicles apparent even in used Volvo trucks and older models. It is no wonder that the company sells over 200,000 trucks per year – and it is why used Volvo trucks could be perfect option for you. Chief amongst the truck range is the FM.
2. Volvo FM
The Volvo FM is a high quality vehicle which comes in six cab sizes (low day cab, day cab, low sleeper cab, sleeper cab, globetrotter cab and crew cab) so there is enough choice to ensure something appropriate to meet all needs. The Volvo FM is also available as a diesel, biodiesel or electric powered truck, so if your business has an ecological commitment there is the option for this to be maintained.
An important feature of the Volvo FM is the Dynamic Steering. This is an innovative power steering capability which means you can manoeuvre your vehicle with ease and precision. Volvo’s Dynamic Steering features a powerful electric motor which is mounted above the hydraulic steering gear, and which can provide additional torque. Sensors throughout the vehicle monitor the steering angle, speed, yaw rate and driver actions, and input 2,000 times per second to provide an incredible driving experience.
In common with other Volvo trucks, the FM also features a driver support system to make the whole process of being on the road simpler and safer. Across their trucks, these Volvo systems include side collision avoidance support, forward collision warning with emergency brake, adaptive high beam, lane keeping assist, downhill cruise control, electronic stability control, adaptive cruise control and distance alert.
Volvo’s FM truck also features plenty of space and storage – whichever cab size you opt for. This means drivers will be well equipped to spend time in their cab outside of the hours they spend on the road itself. For instance, in the sleeper cab models you will find that there is rear wall storage and the convenience of further under-bed storage.
3. Volvo FL and FH
Also available from Volvo are the FL and the FH. Both of these types of truck continue the Swedish manufacturer’s reputation for excellence. You will find that whatever choice you make, which should always be based on your transport requirements, Volvo will provide a vehicle which can do the job. At GRC, we stock many used Volvo trucks.
